LAST WEEK: Gonzaga University went 0-2-0 in the Colorado Soccer Classic hosted by the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo. this past weekend. The Bulldogs held the #21 ranked Buffaloes scoreless until CU punched in the eventual match-winner in the 85th minute last Friday. The Zags later dropped a 3-0 decision to 2007 NCAA Tournament participant University of Denver on Sunday.

ABOUT THE WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS: Washington State University enters the week with an 3-2-3 overall record after beating Seattle University this past Sunday. The Cougars lead the all-time series against Gonzaga University 14-0-1 with the tie coming in 2006. Kiersten Dallstream leads WSU with three goals and eight assists on the season. Matt Potter is in his sixth year as the Cougars head coach and owns a 48-39-18 career coaching record.

ABOUT THE EASTERN WASHINGTON EAGLES: Eastern Washington University enters the week with an 1-4-2 overall mark and will host the University of Idaho on Friday prior to matching up with Gonzaga University Sunday. GU leads the all-time series 9-3-1 and has won the last five meetings including a 2-0 decision in Cheney last year. Lauren Koelzer and Abby Jensen enter the week tied of the team lead in goals (2) and points (4). Head coach George Hageage owns a 46-91-11 record in his nine years at EWU.

RETURNEES LEADING THE WAY: Sophomores Sheridan Jones and Ashley Riley continue to produce for Gonzaga University. Jones, who produced two goals and finished second on the team in shots in 2007, recorded her second goal and second game-winner of the 2008 season in the 1-0 win over California State University Bakersfield Sept. 7. The Hillsboro, Ore. native enters the week leading the team in goals (2) and in points (5). Riley, who finished second on the team in goals and tied for the team lead in assists in 2007, scored her first goal and handed out her first assist of the 2008 campaign in the 3-1 win at Idaho Aug. 29.

ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE ZAGS: Three players have recorded their first career goals for Gonzaga University this season. Freshman Sarah Rhodes became the latest Bulldog to pick up her first career netter. Rhodes took a pass from junior Christi D’Agostino and found the left corner of the net for what proved to be the match-winner for GU in the 1-0 win over the University of Montana. D’Agostino and redshirt freshman Katie Spangenberg also recorded their first career goals for the Zags this season. D’Agostino’s goal proved to be match-winner in the Zags’ 1-0 win over Portland State University on Aug. 24 and Spangenberg picked up her first career netter against the University of Washington Aug. 31.
