LAST WEEK: Gonzaga University went 0-1-0 last week, dropping its West Coast Conference opener last Sunday to #3 ranked University of Portland 4-0 at the Gonzaga Soccer Field.

MAKING THEM COUNT: All three goals scored by Gonzaga University sophomore Sheridan Jones this season have been match-winners. The three goals also set a new career high, surpassing her two scores of last season. Her first goal of the season came in the Zags 3-1 win at the University of Idaho Aug. 29, her second was the lone score of the match in GU's 1-0 win over California State Bakersfield Sept. 7, and her latest netter gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 double overtime win over Eastern Washington University Sept. 28th. The Hillsboro, Ore. native enters the week leading the team in goals, match-winners (3), shots (41), points (7) and shots-on-goal (16).

ABOUT THE PEPPERDINE WAVES: Pepperdine University enters the week with a 5-7-2 overall record and 0-1-0 in the West Coast Conference after dropping a 1-0 decision to Loyola Marymount University last Sunday. The Waves lead the all-time series 10-4-1 over the Zags but the Bulldogs have won four of the last five including last year's meeting 1-0 in Spokane. Amanda Rupp enters the week leading the team in goals (7) and points (19). Tim Ward is in this 11th year as head coach and owns a 120-66-29 overall record at the school.

ABOUT THE LOYOLA MARYMOUNT LIONS: Loyola Marymount University enters the week with a 6-4-3 overall record and 1-0-0 in the West Coast Conference after beating Pepperdine University 1-0 last Sunday. LMU will face the University of Portland on Friday before matching up with Gonzaga University on Sunday. The Lions lead the all-time series 12-2-2 after taking a 1-0 decision last year in Los Angeles. Lauren Shanklin comes into the week leading the team in goals (4) and points (8). Joe Mallia is in his second year as LMU head coach and owns a 18-10-4 career record at the school.

SO, ABOUT THAT SCHEDULE: Gonzaga University has played five teams that appear in the top 50 of the NCAA RPI rankings. In last week's RPI rankings, the University of Portland was ranked 1st, the University of Colorado was 16th, the University of Washington 20th, Long Beach State University 25th, the University of Denver 44th and the University of San Diego 46th. Loyola Marymount University, whom the Zags match up with on Sunday, was ranked 53rd. Seven Bulldog opponents have appeared in at least one top 25 national poll this season. The young Zag squad that starts three freshmen has posted an 0-2-0 record against ranked opponents this season, dropping a 1-0 decision at #21 Colorado Sept. 19 and 4-0 decision to #3 Portland this past Sunday in Spokane.

AIMING HER WAY UP THE CHARTS: Gonzaga University women's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Ames has posted five shutouts this season and seven now in her career. The Albuquerque, N.M. native earned her first career West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor last week after she turned away seven shots in the 0-0 tie at Idaho State University Oct. 3 and made a career-high 12 saves in the Zags' scoreless draw at Weber State University Oct. 5. Ames now ranks third on Gonzaga's all-time shutout list with seven. She enters the week third in the WCC in shutouts (5) and saves (58).

THREE FIRSTS FOR THE ZAGS: Three players have recorded their first career goals for Gonzaga University this season. Freshman Sarah Rhodes recorded her first career netter after she took a pass from junior Christi D'Agostino and found the left corner of the net for what proved to be the match-winner for GU in the 1-0 win over the University of Montana Sept. 12. D'Agostino and redshirt freshman Katie Spangenberg also have recorded their first career goals for the Zags this season. D'Agostino's goal proved to be match-winner in the Zags' 1-0 win over Portland State University on Aug. 24 and Spangenberg picked up her first career netter against the University of Washington Aug. 31.
