Helm Named Academic All-West Coast Conference

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Gonzaga women's soccer's Tianna Helm was selected to the West Coast Conference's All-Academic Team the league announced Wednesday. Madeline Gotta, India Jencks, Jodi Ulkekul and Sophia Viviano were named to the conference's honorable mention list.
Helm, who boasts a 3.75 GPA, started all 19 games this season. She recorded an assist during her senior campaign. The accounting major was tabbed honorable mention Academic All-WCC last season.
Gotta tied for fourth in the conference with five assists in her sophomore season. She added four goals and was fourth on the team with 13 points. Her five assists rank eighth in program history for most in a single season. Gotta owns a 3.47 GPA.
Jencks has a 3.35 GPA. She scored a team-high nine goals, the most by a Bulldog since Nanda McCormick found the back of the net nine times in 2005. Jencks' nine goals is tied for fifth in GU history for most goals in a single season. She added two assists and finished with 20 points, which ranks sixth in program history and fifth in the WCC this season. The redshirt sophomore took 57 shots in 2017, the seventh-most in GU history.
Ulkekul started all 19 games this season, recording four assists and scoring a goal. The junior has a 3.48 GPA and is a Physical Education major. Viviano was third in the WCC with five assists, fourth with 21 points and sixth with eight goals. The sociology major boasts a 3.36 GPA.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.
This season, the Zags reached the 10-win plateau for the first time since 2007. It was only the sixth time in program history that GU reached double-digit wins a season. The Bulldogs had the best start to a season in program history this year, and broke several team records.
Gonzaga scored the most goals (39), made the most assists (30), totaled the most points (108) and took the most shots (312) in a single season in program history in 2017.
