Bulldogs Fall To No. 55 Washington

Seattle, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team rounded out the weekend Sunday with a 7-0 loss to No. 55 University of Washington at the Nordstorm Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash. With the loss, the Bulldgos drop to 1-2 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 6-1. Washington opened with a strong display in doubles, taking all three matches. The Huskies' duo of Joyce Ardies and Tara Simpson defeated Emily Anderson and Aglaya Kokurina 8-1 at No. 1. Playing No. 2, Sydney Lederhouse and Kristen MacWilliam dropped an 8-1 decision to Venise Chan and Kelsey Anonsen, while Erin Humphrey and Clare Dodge fell 8-4 at No. 3 to Allison Rainey and Aleksandra Krslijanin. Washington's Ardies opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lederhouse at No. 4 to extend the Huskies' lead. Simpson's 6-0, 6-2 victory over Dodge at No. 3 before Chan secured the victory for UW with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Anderson at No. 1. The Huskies went on to post victories at the No. 6, 5 and 2 positions. At No. 6, Krslijanin posted a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 victory over Humphrey, while at No. 5 Melinda Wong earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over MacWilliam. Kokurina put up a fight against Malovic at No. 2 but it wasn't enough as the junior fell 6-4, 4-6, 12-10.
