Zags' Rally Comes Up One Match Short At UTEP Classic

EL PASO, Tex. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 4-3 decision to Sam Houston State University in each team's opening match at the UTEP Tennis Classic in El Paso, Tex. Friday morning. Sophomore Clare Dodge along with freshmen Madeline Parker and Kristina Zauere each posted wins their respective singles matches for the Bulldogs (1-1) who competed outside for the first time in over three months. After dropping each of the three doubles matches, the Zags battled back to even the match at 3-3 with the three singles wins but Sam Houston State's Irina Sotnikova held off Gonzaga senior Aglaya Kokurina 6-3, 6-3 in the day's final match to claim the victory for the Bearkats. The Bulldogs continue play at the UTEP Tennis Classic with a matchup against the University of Northern Colorado Saturday at 8 a.m.
