Four Zags Post Singles Wins In 5-2 Victory

SPOKANE, Wash. - - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team won four singles matches in straight sets Saturday as the Bulldogs defeated the University of Montana 5-2 at the Spokane Racquet Club. With the win, the Zags improve to 3-7 overall, while the Grizzles fall to 1-6. Gonzaga jumped out to an early advantage by winning the doubles point. Sydney Lederhouse and Erin Humphrey combined at the No. 2 position, and Agalya Kokurina teamed with Carrie Schofield at No. 3 to earn victories. Emily Anderson and Kendall Bates fought a close fight at No. 1 but eventually fell to Liz Walker and Danni Paulson 8-6. In singles play, Kokurina, Lederhouse, Bates and Courtney Lau all posted victories in straight sets. Playing at No. 2 Kokurina defeated Paulson (7-6(11), 6-0), while Lederhouse defeated Martyna Nowak (7-5, 7-6(0)) at the No. 3 spot. Bates earned a win at No. 4 defeating Jessica Souza (6-3, 6-2), while Lau earned a win at No. 6 against Quincy Carter (6-1, 6-4). Anderson, playing at No. 1, and Schofield, playing at No. 5, both fell in singles play. The Bulldogs will travel to Hawaii this week to play five matches. Gonzaga will open play Tuesday with dual matches against Brigham Young University - Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific University.
