HONOLULU, Hawaii - Courtney Lau earned a singles win at the No. 9 position as the Gonzaga Unviersity women's tennis team fell 6-1 to BYU-Hawaii Tuesday in Honolulu, Hawaii. BYU - Hawaii is currently the top-ranked team in Division II.

 

With the loss, Gonzaga falls to 3-8 overall, while the defending Division II national champions remain undefeated with a 10-0 record.

 

Lau posted the lone Gonzaga point of the day defeating Shenley Searing (6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (8)) at the No. 6 position in singles play. At the No. 1 position, Emily Anderson fell to Jing Jing Liu (6-0, 6-0). Aglaya Kokruina fell at the No. 2 position to Dori Magas (4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7)). Sydney Lederhouse fell playing to the No. 3 position to Yuliya Ustyuzhanina (6-2, 6-1), while Kendall Bates fell at the No. 4 spot to Anna Anikanova (6-3, 6-1). Rounding out singles play at No. 5 was Carrie Schofield falling to Ramona Husaru (6-2, 6-1).

 

In doubles play, Kokurina and Schofield teamed to defeat Searing and Teresa Holmes (8-5). At the No. 1 position, Anderson and Bates fell to Ustyuzhania and Anikoanova (8-5), while Humphrey and Lederhouse fell to Magas and Liu at No. 2 (8-5).

 

The Zags will the courts against Wednesday against Hawaii Pacific University.
