Women's Tennis Rolls To Fifth Straight

Cheney, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team won its fifth straight match Wednesday as the Zags shutout Eastern Washington University 7-0 in Cheney, Wash. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 9-11, while the Eagles fell to 8-10. Gonzaga jumped out to a strong start by earning the doubles point. At No. 2, Danielle Farmer and Rika Mehndiratta defeated Marie Demerath and Sarah Leuenberger 8-5. The Bulldog duo of Clare Dodge and Sydney Lederhouse secured the victory with an 8-4 over Rachel Berger and Kerstyn Dolack at No. 3. At the top spot, the Eagles' Kasey Knox and Amanda Mankovits posted an 8-3 win over Emily Anderson and Aglaya Kokurina. The Bulldogs carried their momentum into singles play, as they took all six matches. Kokurina earned a three-set 6-0, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6) over Knox at No. 1, as Mehndiratta posted a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win over Dolack at No. 2. Anderson posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3 over Leuneberger, while Dodge continued her impressive freshman campaign with a hard fought 7-6 (7-2) 6-1 win at No. 4. Lederhouse earned at victory at No. 5 over Demerath after fighting back from an early deficit, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6). Rounding out singles play at No. 6, Farmer posted a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) win over Berger. Gonzaga will hit the courts Tuesday for its final tune-up before the West Coast Conference Championships. The match against Idaho at 3 p.m. at the Spokane Racquet Club will mark the final home match for four Zag seniors - Anderson, Erin Humphrey, Lederhouse and Carrie Schofield.
