SPOKANE, Wash. - - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team fell in it's first match of the West Coast Conference Championship 4-0 to top-seeded and defending conference champion Pepperdine University on Friday. The three-day event is being hosted by Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.

Gonzaga drops to 4-16 for the season, while Pepperdine improves to 17-9.

The Bulldogs were unable to overcome the Waves, dropping four singles matches in straight sets. Once the winner of the match is determined, the remaining matches are not finished. Thus, the reason that No. 5 and 6 singles matches were not finished.

The match was delayed from the original start time due to rain in the Malibu area. The rain also forced the cancellation of doubles play.

The loss drops the Zags into the back draw of the bracket. Gonzaga will face either fourth-seeded University of San Francisco or fifth-seeded University of San Diego Saturday at 9 a.m. in Malibu.
