Women’s Tennis Enters Rankings at No. 41

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga’s women’s tennis team entered the national rankings at an all-time-best No. 41 in Tuesday’s release of the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's National Team Rankings.
The Zags are riding a four-match win streak after a weekend in which they went 3-0 against Seattle U and Montana in a doubleheader Friday before beating Eastern Washington on Sunday. GU is 7-2 overall on the season with their only losses coming against Michigan and Arizona State, who are both ranked in the top 25 of the current rankings.
GU’s upcoming schedule features four more teams ranked on Tuesday with three in the top 30, including two in the top 15. GU will travel to face No. 30 Wichita State and No. 15 Kansas on back-to-back days March 3-4, along with No. 2 Pepperdine at home on April 6, and No. 47 Saint Mary’s on the road on April 14.
Along with the team ranking, the doubles pair of Sophie Whittle and Graciela Rosas remained in the rankings at No. 47. The duo is 9-1 overall on the season, including a 4-0 record at the No. 1 spot in doubles play. This past week, Whittle and Rosas went 2-0 and led in their third match of the week when it went unfinished as the team clinched the doubles point. Overall, they’ve won seven matches in a row dating back to the fall tournament season.
The Zags will open West Coast Conference action their next time out right at home on the Stevens Center courts against BYU. That match will take place on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. Live video and stats will be available on the women's tennis schedule page at GoZags.com.
