Feb. 20, 2018

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga women's tennis swept the West Coast Conference Player of the Week awards, league officials announced Tuesday.

Junior Nevada Apollo was named the WCC Singles Player of the Week, and her and playing partner Ashleigh Jacobs were named the Doubles Team of the Week.

In singles, Apollo went 3-0 this week in the Zags' No. 3 singles spot and helped GU to a perfect week with wins over Seattle U, Montana and Eastern Washington. The junior didn't lose a set in her three matches and was the clinching point against Seattle U and Montana in a doubleheader last Friday. Apollo is now 4-2 in dual matches and 13-3 overall on the year.

The doubles combination of Jacobs and Apollo won both of their matches in Gonzaga's 3-0 week at the No. 2 position, while Jacobs was on the court in the third match with Domonique Garley and collected yet another win. Apollo and Jacobs were the clinching match to gain the doubles point for GU both times out. The pair is a combined 3-1 together in dual match play and 8-3 overall on the season.

It is the first league awards for Gonzaga this season. Apollo has now won a league weekly honor four times in her career, adding today's two to a pair of singles honors last year. It is Jacobs' first-career weekly honor.

The Zags will open West Coast Conference action their next time out right at home on the Stevens Center courts against BYU. That match will take place on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. Live video and stats will be available on the women's tennis schedule page at GoZags.com.
