Women’s Tennis Heads to CA for Last WCC Road Stint

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga women’s tennis hits the road to California this next weekend for their final WCC road trip, with matches in Moraga and Stockton. The Zags will face Saint Mary’s Saturday at 11 a.m. and Pacific Sunday at 11 a.m.
Last week, GU suffered their first WCC loss this season, falling to eighth-ranked Pepperdine on Friday, but GU bounced back the next day with a 4-1 win over Loyola Marymount. The duo of Sophie Whittle and Graciela Rosas defeated the No. 29 ranked doubles pair from LMU in a 6-4 win over the Lions. Tsuruta and Bourguignon earned their second win of the weekend with a 6-0 sweep. In singles, Whittle came out strong with a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 51 ranked player Veronia Miroshnichenko. After four courts going to a third set, it was Domonique Garley who clinched the match with a 2-1, 6-1, 7-6 (5) win.
After their weekend against highly ranked opponents, Whittle and Rosas jumped to No. 29 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings.
Saint Mary’s 10-7 on the season and 4-2 in WCC play. The Gaels are coming off a 4-0 sweep at Pacific last weekend and will take on Portland Friday before facing the Zags.
Pacific is currently on a four-match losing streak after falling to Saint Mary’s 4-0. The Tigers are 5-9 on the year and 1-3 in conference play.
