The Gonzaga University women's tennis team will compete in the West Coast Conference Championship in Malibu, Calif. this weekend. The three-day tournament will begin Friday morning at 9 a.m.

Pepperdine University will host the three-day event this year at the Raplhs-Straus Tennis Center.

The tournament will be held as a dual-match format. The Bulldogs, who are 4-15 overall including 0-4 against WCC foes, are seeded No. 8 and will meet top-seeded and defending conference champion Pepperdine on Friday at 9 a.m. The nationally-ranked No. 16 Waves currently boast a 16-9 record including a 2-0 record in WCC action.

Highlighting Gonzaga singles play is junior Aglaya Kokurina. Kokurina, who will play No. 2 singles, leads the Zags with an 11-8 singles record. Also looked upon to lead the Bulldogs will be senior Kendall Bates. Bates, who will play No. 3 singles in her final WCC Championship, has posted a 6-12 singles record, including going 4-4 at No. 3.

Also scheduled to compete for the Bulldogs are junior Emily Anderson at No. 1 singles, junior Sydney Lederhouse at No. 4 singles, sophomore Courtney Lau at No. 5 and sophomore Carrie Schofield at No. 6.

The Zags' doubles teams are expected to be Anderson and Bates at No. 1, Humphrey and Lederhouse at No. 2 and Schofield and Kokurina playing at No. 3.

The Waves have won 18 conference titles in the 21 years of the WCC Championship.

The winner of Friday's match between Gonzaga and Pepperdine will advance in the championship draw, while the loser will drop into the consolation draw.
