Women's Tennis Signs Komer to NLI
June 11, 2018

SPOKANE, Wash. –  Sara Komer has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Gonzaga women’s tennis program for the 2018-19 season, head coach D.J. Gurule announced Monday. Komer will arrive at Gonzaga this fall as a senior after having spent her first three years of eligibility at the University of Delaware.

“Sara brings a ton of experience, and I think she fits our mold to a ‘T’ as a kid who came out of high school not particularly highly ranked but has worked super hard and is an unbelievable competitor,” Gurule said. “Sara is a quality kid; we instantly liked her as soon as we started the process. We’re excited to see what she can do in the future, especially with a pretty exciting year coming up.”

Komer had a successful three-year campaign with the Blue Hens, recording 53 career singles wins to tie for 16th all-time in program history. She finished the 2017-18 season with a 19-9 overall record and a 13-4 duals mark at No. 2 singles. Komer picked up All-CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) Second Team Singles honors for her performance.

The Venetia, Pa. native also etched her name in Delaware’s record books in doubles play, posting a top-10 career performance with 57 career doubles wins. Komer was named to the All-CAA Doubles First Team after finishing the 2017-18 season with a 23-7 overall mark in doubles play including a perfect 4-0 mark at No. 1 doubles in CAA play. Komer and partner Brooke Pilkington posted 21 doubles victories together which tied for fourth in the program’s history for doubles wins in a single season.

“I loved the culture and environment that Gonzaga fostered,” Komer said. “I wanted to be part of this competitive program.”

Komer will be one of five seniors on the Bulldogs squad next season including Nevada Apollo, Domonique Garley, Graciela Rosas and Sophie Whittle.
