Whittle Set for Historic All-American Championships Appearance

SPOKANE, Wash - Gonzaga junior Sophie Whittle is set to open her collegiate season on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the 2017 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
Whittle, ranked No. 89 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, will be the first Bulldog to compete in the All-American Championships, hosted annually by the Rivera Tennis Club in Los Angeles. She was selected to the prestigious tournament earlier this month.
The Nipomo, Calif., native is coming off a strong showing at the Central Coast Pro Tennis Open, where she beat world-No. 114 and the tournament's third-seeded Francoise Abanda 6-2, 6-3. She then took former Wimbledon Girls' champion Laura Robson to a first-set tiebreak before falling in two during her Round of 16 match.
Whittle will start the All-Americas Saturday, Sept. 30. Match times will be posted to www.GoZags.com when available.
