Ashley Allen is entering her third season as assistant coach of the Gonzaga volleyball team, but this is her fourth season on staff after serving as a volunteer assistant in 2014.
Since stepping on campus, Allen has helped led the Bulldogs to more success than at any other point in the program's last 20 years. The Bulldogs have posted winning records every season with Allen on staff, twice reaching 17 wins and going 17-11 in 2016 for the squad's best record since 1990. Also in 2016, Allen helped the Zags finish in a tie for third place in the West Coast Conference standings, another program high since 1994.
In 2014, Allen helped establish an offense that ended among the nation's top 20 in kills, kills per set, assists, and assists per set, and in 2015, the Zags were more efficient than in any point in the last 10 years with a .251 team hitting percentage.
Two Bulldogs have earned All-WCC honors since Allen arrived in Spokane: Emmy Allen in 2016 and Savannah Blinn from 2013-15. Blinn also picked up All-America Honorable Mention honors twice and various Regional awards three times.
In addition to her responsibilities at Gonzaga, Allen has also spent time in the summer coaching the Collegiate National Team, one of the numerous international squads under the USA Volleyball umbrella.
Before coming to Gonzaga, Allen was an assistant coach at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. She prepared scouting reports, helped plan practices, and managed team meals and travel among her game day coaching duties.
She's also spent time coaching in high school and club volleyball, spending eight years at Nevillizms, a volleyball training facility in Bellevue, Wash. Between 2010 and 2013, Allen was also head coach at Jackson High School in Mill Creek, Wash, where she led the Hawks to the state championships all three years. In 2010, her team won the state title, and they took fourth in 2011 and third in 2012. Under Allen, Mill Creek also received the WIAA Distinguished Team award for maintaining a team GPA of 3.495 in both 2011 and 2012.
Allen has received numerous awards, both as a player and as a coach. In 2011, she was named one of the AVCA's 30 Under 30 and one of the up-and-coming coaches under the age of 30. As a senior in college, she also was a nominee for the America East Woman of the Year.
A four-year member of the Binghamton University volleyball team, Allen played both setter and opposite hitter. She captained the team in 2009 while making the Dean's List and acting as the SAAC secretary for three years. She attended the NCAA National Leadership Conference in 2008, and she was also a three-time member of the American East Honor Roll.
