  Brynn Murphy

Brynn Murphy

Player Profile

Position:
Assistant Coach

Experience:
1st year

College:
UCLA, 2005

Gonzaga University women's volleyball coach Dave Gantt has rounded out his staff. Brynn Murphy joins the Bulldogs full-time after serving as a volunteer coach for the past two seasons.

"Clearly I am very excited about the staff we have in place to help mold our student-athletes and grow our program," said Gantt.

Murphy, who has helped the Bulldog program in a variety of aspects since the 2007 season, was a four-year starter at UCLA from 2001-04. She closed out her career ninth in the Bruins record book in block assists (225), 10th in total blocks (373) and 17th in total kills (1,242). Murphy was named to the Pacific-10 All-Freshman squad her first season at UCLA and went on to earn All-Pacific-10 first team accolades as a junior and honorable mention honors her senior season.

Murphy helped UCLA to four-straight NCAA Tournaments, including three NCAA Regional Finals. The Bruins had an 86-43 (66.7%) overall record over Murphy's four years and won 20-plus matches each season.

"We are very fortunate that our program is in a position to attract an up and coming young coach of Brynn's caliber," stated Gantt. "Her volleyball background speaks for itself, as she has competed at the highest collegiate level available in the U.S. What spoke louder to me than her credibility in the world of volleyball is her selfless everyday nature. As evidenced by her role as a volunteer assistant for the past two years, she is a very giving human being and an extremely positive role model for our student-athletes. I am excited to work with her."

After her four-year playing career, Murphy served as an undergraduate assistant coach for the Bruins during 2005. She has also coached multiple club teams, including being the head coach of South Bay Volleyball Club (Carson, Calif.) and is currently the assistant coach for the Splash Volleyball Club here in Spokane.

Murphy earned a bachelor's of arts in history from UCLA in 2005 and is on pace to gain her master's in sports and athletic administration from Gonzaga in June of this year.
