SEATTLE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-16) decision to the University of Washington, who is currently ranked ninth in the latest CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll, in its first match of the Northwest Challenge hosted by the Huskies. With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 1-4 on the season, while the Huskies improved to 3-0 overall.

Senior Elaina Renius, and juniors Emily Johnson and Michelle Boevers were the offensive players for the Zags combining for 18 of the team's 20 kills as the Gonzaga offense combined for a .086 hitting percentage. Freshman setter dished out 19 assists as Renius, Johnson and Boevers each had six kills in the setback.

Washington's offensive was opposite of Gonzaga's as the Huskies combined for 36 kills and a .386 attacking clip. The strong and well rounded offense was led by Kindra Carlson who tallied a match-high 12 kills and had a .476 hitting percentage. Airial Salvo added six kills, while both Jill Collymore and Becky Perry chipped in six apiece.

Washington served up a total of 14 aces during the three-set match. Collymore finished with six aces to her credit, while Salvo and Carlson combined for seven.

UW controlled the play at the net slightly, finishing the match with seven team blocks, compared to GU's four blocks. Renius paced Gonzaga at the net with three block assists and one solo block.

Gonzaga will play both Portland State University and Boise State University to close out the Northwest Challenge tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 5. The Zags will face off against the Vikings at 1 p.m. and the Broncos at 5 p.m.
