PORTLAND, Ore. - Gonzaga University women's volleyball was looking to rebound from a tough opening day of the Northwest Challenge but had a hard task in front of them as it faced third-ranked University of Washington Saturday morning. The Bulldogs could not stop the strong and well rounded Husky squad falling 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 at the Stott Center on the campus of Portland State University. GU fell to 1-4 overall while UW improved its perfect record to 5-0.

Washington tallied 37 kills on 85 total attempts in the 3-set match for a .376 hitting clip. The Huskies best hitting set of the match was a 14 kill, one error performance in the second set where it had a match-best .481 attacking percentage. Gonzaga had 26 kills on 83 attempts, but added 19 attack errors for a .084 hitting percentage.

Senior Layne Brosky and junior Allyson Powell were bright spots for the Bulldogs. Brosky registered her fifth-straight double-figure kill match with a team-high 10. Powell, who has been superb in her first season as the Zags libero, finished with a match-high 17 digs.

The Huskies had a well rounded offense as six players closed the match with five or more kills. Becky Perry was the only UW player to finish with double-figure kill. She had a match high 11 kills and no errors on 21 attack attempts for a strong .524 hitting clip.

Washington served up a total of nine aces during the match to Gonzaga's one. UW's Jenna Hagglund had three, while Bianca Rowland and Jill Collymore added two apiece. Sophomore Laura Day was the only Zag to register an ace.

UW also controlled the play above the net, finishing the match with eight blocks to GU's one.
