SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24) decision to Weber State University in the championship match of the Bulldog Tournament Saturday evening at the Martin Centre. The Zags finished the tournament with a 2-1 record; good enough for second place, and are now 4-7 on the season. Gonzaga placed two players on the All-Tournament Team; senior Elaina Renius and freshman Denise Van de Mortel.

Renius continued to shine for the Bulldogs as she collected her 10th double-digit kill match of the season. The middle blocker closed out the match with a team-high 18 kills. She also had four digs, four block assists and one service ace.

On the tournament, Renius had 46 kills, a .360 hitting percentage, 13 digs and 12 total blocks.

Van de Mortel, who garnered her second-straight All-Tournament nod, passed out 44 assists as Gonzaga had 53 total team kills and a .208 hitting percentage. Van de Mortel also tallied 12 digs, for her third double-double of the season, along with three block assists and one solo block.

Over the three matches, Van de Mortel dished out 128 assists, collected 25 digs and had 11 blocks.

The Wildcats were led by All-Tournament honoree Micah Folsom who had a match-high 19 kills, in addition to 12 digs and three block assists. Teammate Chelsea Bair, also an All-Tournament honoree, finished with 14 kills and six digs.

The Bulldogs and Wildcats were even in digs, with each team having 55 in the contest. Gonzaga held the slight 14-9 advantage in blocks while Weber State won the kill battle, 60-53.

Gonzaga will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 17 when it welcomes the University of Idaho to the Martin Centre. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
