MORAGA, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's volleyball team lost its third-straight West Coast Conference match as the Bulldogs were outplayed by Saint Mary's College on Saturday afternoon in Moraga, Calif. The Gaels, who improved their record to 18-6 overall and 8-3 in the WCC, swept the match 25-10, 25-14, 25-19. With the loss, the Zags fell to 9-19 on the season and 2-9 in conference.

Gonzaga, who was held to 27 kills in the match, was led by junior Michelle Boevers and senior Elaina Renius with 10 and seven kills, respectively. Boevers 10 kills was a match-high and her 17th double-figure kill performance of the season. Freshman setter Denise Van de Mortel dished out 26 assists for Gonzaga as the Zags connected for just a .056 hitting percentage. GU mishit 22 balls on the afternoon.

Saint Mary's offense was a bit more efficient than Gonzaga's as it finished with 36 kills, with only 10 errors, on 83 total attempts for a strong .313 attacking clip. SMC had four players finish with five or more kills, including Mega York with a team-high nine. Shannon Lowell added eight, while Taylor Groess and Chanteal Satele both chipped in six apiece.

Gonzaga and Saint Mary's both collected 30 digs in the match. Bulldog junior Emily Johnson led the way with a match-high 11 digs and senior libero Paige Dillingham added five.

For the Gaels, York and Lyndsey Parker each had five digs in the 3-0 sweep.

SMC was also hot from the service line, finishing with nine service aces. Lowell and Alita Fisher had the Zags number, each knocking down four.

 

 

Gonzaga will close out its regular season with its final three matches at home. The Bulldogs first of three final matches is set for Thursday, Nov. 13 against Loyola Marymount. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
