SPOKANE, Wash. - Julie Rubenstein led all players with 17 kills and a .500 attack percentage as No. 24 Pepperdine University defeated Gonzaga University in three sets during a West Coast Conference women's volleyball match-up at the Martin Centre Saturday afternoon. The Waves, who improved to 19-5 overall and 7-5 in the WCC, combined for 50 kills in the 25-18, 25-13, 25-14 victory. With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 10-20 overall and 3-10 in conference.

The Zags, who were coming off a thrilling 3-2 victory over Loyola Marymount University on Thursday, struggled to find any offense as they finished with 27 kills and a .105 hitting percentage. Junior Michelle Boevers was the top GU hitter with seven kills and added three digs.

Senior Elaina Renius and junior Layne Brosky also were bright spots for the Zags, chipping in six kills apiece, while junior Emily Johnson had four. Freshman setter Denise Van de Mortel finished with 22 assists, seven digs and one solo block for Gonzaga.

Senior Paige Dillingham was all over the floor defensively for the Bulldogs, finishing with a match-high 14 digs.

Rubenstein and the Waves were on fire all afternoon as the team combined for a .393 attacking clip. Kim Hill and Rachel Lumsden both contributed nine kills and Kiah Fiers had six. Pepperdine was led defensively by Fiers who collected a team-high 11 digs.

Gonzaga closes out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 22 when it welcomes the University of Portland to the Martin Center for Senior Day. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
