Volleyball Signs California Outside Hitter
April 15, 2004 SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head volleyball coach Kip Yoshimura has announced the signing of one player during the Spring period as Becky Jones, a 5-11 outside hitter from Woodland, Calif., has signed to play for the Bulldogs for the 2004 season. Jones had an outstanding high school career at Davis Senior High where she earned four varsity letters and first team All-Monticello Empire League honors as a junior and senior. During her sophomore year Jones earned second-team All-MEL honors as she was part of the DHS team that captured the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship and finished third at the California State Championships. During her senior season Jones collected 265 kills, 17 blocks, 142 digs and 12 service aces in 16 conference matches as she helped Davis Senior High advance to the Sectional quarterfinals. Jones currently plays club volleyball for Gold Cal Juniors. "We are very excited to be signing Becky during the spring signing period," mentioned Yoshimura on the Bulldogs lone spring addition. "We think she is going to be a great addition to the class we signed in the fall and she has a chance to step right in and win a starting job when we open camp in August."
Jones joins Alecia Douglas, an outside hitter from Cave Creek, Ariz.; Heather Dunn, a setter from Napa, Calif.; Briawna Mueller, a middle blocker from Hermiston, Ore.; and Tianna Tuatagaloa, a middle blocker from San Rafael, Calif., as members of the Bulldogs incoming volleyball class for 2004.
