Blinn Picks up Third All-WCC Honor
Dec. 1, 2015
SAN BRUNO, Calif.--Redshirt senior Savannah Blinn added yet another award to her already full trophy case Tuesday as she earned her third consecutive All-West Coast Conference honor, as announced by the conference office.
The Lewiston, Idaho, native was named to the conference's First Team after also receiving the honor after her sophomore and junior years. She's just the second Bulldog in program history to receive three All-Conference bids; Lisa Petticord earned First Team designation in 1987, 1989, and 1990. Blinn is the first Bulldog with three consecutive All-WCC First Team awards, however.
As a senior, the opposite hitter once again led the Bulldogs with 475 kills, averaging 4.03 per set. Those 475 kills are third-most in the conference and 35th in the nation, and she's also third and among the top 40 with 531.5 total points as well. During the season, she climbed into second on the Bulldogs' all-time kills list, finishing her career with 1,728. That total is also eighth-highest among all active Division I players, and her 4.07 career kills per set mark is ninth as well.
Blinn also ended 2015 with a career high 85 blocks, averaging 0.72 a frame. Her personal best eight blocks in a match came this season - on Sept. 11 versus Niagara - and she hit a blistering .625 Sept. 26 versus Saint Mary's for another career mark.
This is actually Blinn's fourth career postseason award from the WCC. A redshirt freshman in 2012, she was named to the WCC's All-Freshman team that year.
The conference office announced other postseason awards Tuesday as well. BYU's Alexa Gray won Player of the Year while teammate Amy Boswell was tabbed as Defender of the Year. Pepperdine's Tarah Wylie was the conference's Freshman of the year, while Cougar head coach Heather Olmstead earned Coach of the Year honors. The conference's All-Academic teams will be announced Wednesday, Dec. 2.
