Miss America! Blinn All-America HM Again
Savannah Blinn
Dec. 16, 2015

OMAHA, Neb.--Redshirt senior Savannah Blinn closed the door on her collegiate award case Wednesday after earning All-America Honorable Mention yet again from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

"This is a tribute to Savannah and the work she's done during her time here at Gonzaga," said GU volleyball head coach Dave Gantt. "It also validates the process she went through and all Division I athletes go through. No matter how talented you are - and Savannah has that talent - multiple layers of growth and development need to come together for these awards to happen. It's a demanding, challenging process, but the end result is she got better, the team got better, and the program now has more credibility."

With her second straight national honor, Blinn is the first Bulldog to earn two All-America honors in her career. Two others accomplished the feat once as Lisa Petticord did so in 1990 and Kelley Cunningham was recognized nationally two years later.

During her final collegiate season, the opposite hitter once again led the Bulldogs with 475 kills, averaging 4.03 per set. Those 475 kills are fourth-most in the West Coast Conference and 41st in the nation, and she's also fourth and among the top 50 with 531.5 total points as well. Late in the season, she moved into second on the school all-time kills list, ending the year with 1,728. That total is also eighth-highest among all active Division I players, and her 4.07 career kills per set mark is ninth as well. She also has two of the six highest single-season kill totals; this year's 475 are sixth-most in school history and last season's 566 are the fourth most.

The Lewiston, Idaho, native also ended 2015 with a career high 85 blocks, averaging 0.72 a frame. Her personal best eight blocks in a match came during 2015 - on Sept. 11 versus Niagara - and she hit a blistering .625 Sept. 26 versus Saint Mary's for another career mark.

All-America Honorable Mention is just one of many awards and honors Blinn has received at Gonzaga. She's received conference honors during all four playing years, including First Team All-WCC each of the last three years, and All-Pacific North Region honors after each of the last three seasons. On Dec. 8, she earned First Team All-Region after two All-Region Honorable Mentions as a redshirt sophomore and redshirt junior.

"Having the program's first two-time All-American is yet another marker to show the team's growth," Gantt said. "When talking about numerous conference awards, regional awards, and now multiple All-Americas, it shows we have a lot to offer at Gonzaga University. Sav bought into the school's mission of developing the whole person, and look at the validation she's received."
